Skagit County Clerk

Skagit County Clerk Melissa Beaton manages all records for the Superior Court. The Clerk is required to be present at every court hearing or trial to receive and keep a record of all exhibits entered by the parties. The office accepts filings in person and by mail, and handles public records requests for court records. A public access terminal is available at the courthouse where you can view case information such as an index of filed cases and a list of documents in each case at no charge.

Skagit County Superior Court

Skagit County Superior Court is a court of general jurisdiction. It handles all felony criminal cases, civil suits, real property matters, unlawful detainer cases, adoptions, probate, competency hearings, family law, and juvenile cases. The court has four judges: Brian L. Stiles, Laura M. Riquelme, Elizabeth Y. Neidzwski, and Thomas L. Verge. Court Commissioners James B. Dolan and Heather Shand also preside over certain matters. The Superior Court is located at 205 W. Kincaid, Room 202, Mount Vernon.

The court provides court facilitators to help self-represented litigants understand the process and complete their paperwork. Court calendars and daily dockets are posted online. ADA accessibility and interpreter services are available to all parties. Remote appearance options vary by case type and must be arranged in advance.

Skagit County District Court

Skagit County District Court handles traffic infractions, misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, civil claims up to $100,000, and small claims. Small claims filed by an individual go up to $10,000; by a business, up to $5,000. If the infraction or offense occurred inside a city's limits, that city's municipal court handles the case, not the District Court. Matters arising outside any incorporated city limits go to the District Court.

To search the archives, go to digitalarchives.wa.gov. The Skagit County Clerk's website has a specific set of instructions for searching the archives. Select Record Series "Superior Court Records," County "Skagit," and Title "All Title." Enter the case number and click search. Change the Records per Page setting to 100 to see full results. Document images can be ordered certified or non-certified through the archives website. You can also order copies directly from the clerk's office at (360) 416-1800.
