The Odyssey Portal is the primary online tool for searching Okanogan County Superior Court records. Use Odyssey Code 24 when searching for Okanogan County cases. The portal lets you search by case number or party name using the Smart Search function. It provides 24/7 access to public case documents and case information. Some features require registration or a subscription for enhanced access.

When using the Odyssey Portal's Smart Search, do not use hyphens in case numbers. Enter four digits instead (for example, type 2410* rather than 24-1*). This is a known limitation of the Smart Search tool. If you get no results with a hyphenated number, try again without the hyphen. The portal covers 37 counties in Washington and is one of the main points of electronic access for Okanogan County court filings.

The statewide Washington Courts Name and Case Search is another free option. Search by party name or case number. It covers Superior Court, District Court, and municipal courts for Okanogan County. Results update daily at 3:00 a.m. and provide case type, party names, status, and hearing dates. Documents themselves cannot be downloaded from this system; you must request copies from the Clerk.

Note: The Clerk's Office cannot provide legal advice or help fill out forms. Staff can provide case status for public cases and general process information, but specific legal questions must go to an attorney.

Requesting Okanogan County Court Records

Records requests can be submitted in person, by mail, or by email to the Clerk's Office. Be as specific as possible when describing what you need. Include the names of the parties, case number if you have it, and the type of document you are looking for. Sealed and confidential records require a court order for release. If a record is sealed, the Clerk cannot confirm or deny what it contains without that order.

Fees apply for copies. Standard copy fees in Washington courts run $0.50 per page for paper copies and $5.00 for the first page of certified copies, plus $1.00 per additional page. These fees are set under state law. Turnaround time for requests depends on the complexity and volume of what is being asked for. The Clerk's Office processes requests in the order they are received and follows the timelines set by General Rule 31.

Access to Okanogan County court records is governed by GR 31 and GR 31.1, not by the Public Records Act under RCW 42.56. Courts are not agencies subject to that act. Most records are public, but some categories are restricted by statute or court order. The public can inspect and copy records, subject to the applicable rules and fees.

Okanogan County Historical Court Records

The Washington State Digital Archives holds a significant collection of Okanogan County historical court records. One notable set is the Okanogan County Clerk Naturalization Records covering 1890 to 1968, with a total of 2,083 naturalization files. These records include an index to Declarations of Intention, Naturalization Records, and Petitions for Naturalization.

Okanogan County naturalization records in the Washington Digital Archives
The Washington State Digital Archives holds Okanogan County Clerk Naturalization Records from 1890 to 1968, a collection of over 2,000 files valuable for genealogical and historical research.

Volume 7 of the Petitions, covering some records from 1937 to 1940 (document numbers 506, 507, and 509 to 550), is missing from the collection. If you are researching those dates, you may need to contact the appropriate federal office for that period. For best search results in the digital archives, search by last name or by last name and first name combined. The document year reflects the date of entry into the United States, not the filing date with the county. Access is open at digitalarchives.wa.gov.

Original records are maintained at the Okanogan County Courthouse. The naturalization records were transcribed and proofread by George Smethers and Brigid Clift of the Washington State Archives, Central Regional Branch. For more information about these records, contact the Central Regional Branch at (509) 963-2136 or cebrancharchives@sos.wa.gov.

Beyond naturalization records, the Digital Archives holds civil, criminal, domestic, and probate records from many Washington counties going back decades. These older Okanogan County case files may appear in the archives for cases that predate modern electronic court management systems. They are useful for legal research, property chain of title work, and genealogy.

It does not include judges' personal notes, drafts, or internal communications.
